Thank you for purchasing the Alteran PDA from OS Labs, your one stop shop for sci-fi vehicles and accessories! This guide will tell you about all the different functions and how to use them.
The manual is broken down into sections, one for each function.
What's in the box…
The PDA is an item that you wear. The default attach point is the left hand and it is this point where the animations will only work. When attached to your left hand the PDA
will make you look at it each time you use the menu or when the PDA sends you a notice. It also has a typing AO that makes you tap on the touch screen while typing.
If you attach the PDA to anywhere else other than your left hand then those animations will not trigger. (No point looking at your hand when you’re not holding anything right?)
This PDA supports display names and so results will appear like this:
Avatars with a display name - Boss Man (philip.linden) - the name in the brackets is the persons username, this is helpful as display names are not unique.
Avatars without a display name - Philip Linden
The main menu will probably be the easiest was for you to use the different functions of your PDA; however every function also can be used via voice command, should you prefer that over the menu.
Here is a basic run down of everything you will find in the menu.
All the PDAs functions can be accessed via voice commands as well as through the menu system. The following list shows every single command that can be sent to the PDA.
All PDA commands are said on channel 1 by default, you can change this channel if you wish to.
To change the listen channel say the following command.
/1 channel|<insert channel number here>
(NOTE 1! if you have changed the channel number then you will need so say the command on the channel you last set it to.
If you can't remember the channel then touch the PDA, go to page 2 of the main menu and press “CMD Chan” this will tell you the current channel that the PDA is listening on.)
(NOTE 2! If you use the F12 gesture menu trigger and you change the voice channel number then you will need to edit the gesture to use the same channel number that you have set in order for it to work properly.)

This function will automatically tell you of any incoming or outgoing wormholes for any gate that is within a 100m radius.
You will also be told when the wormhole disengages so that if you are using the Stargate radio you will know not to send any more messages as they will not be delivered.
This feature searches the ASN gate database to see if there is a Stargate in the current region that you are in. If a gate is found it will tell you where it is located,
what type of gate it is, who the owner is, what its direct dial address is and also the option for you to teleport directly to it.
This function will scan all the current region and parcel settings and read off a list on what is enabled or disabled.
Items that it lists are as follows.
This will automatically tell you who just entered and left chat range. This is handy as you will know if you need to shout or go poke someone for walking off while you were still talking to them.
This function also reports what language the persons SL client is using, this makes it easier for you to tell if you can understand them before they even speak.
This is similar to the auto mode only the range is 100m rather than 20m. This also tells you how far away detected people are from you.
This is the equivalent of a move lock; it will stop people from being able to push you around or making you fall by deleting a prim from under you.
This is an automatic system that enables when you stop pressing movement buttons and disables when you resume pressing them.
The Subnova radio is a communications device that was developed by 3of9 (Lex Mars) and is now integrated as part of this PDA.
It gives you the ability to talk to people in the same region as though they are right in front of you.
It only listens to you and only you can hear what is being said over the radio. No need to use channels or anything, you just talk normally.
If you are in the Avalonia mini-continent which consists of a grouping of regions owned by QuickFox.org and Eternal Calm Estates
then you will be able to hear radio chatter from all of the regions and take part in conversations that may span all of the regions at once with people in each thanks to our radio relay system.
You can see who is currently on the radio network and what region they are in by saying the /ping command.
There is a status LED for this feature on the front of the PDA on the top right.
It will light up when the radio is switched on and will also flash yellow when the radio is receiving traffic from the radio network.
If you do not want to use this feature then you can turn it off either by using the menu of the voice command (See section 2)
You can also toggle the listen on and off by saying /1 mic off and /1 mic on
NOTE: This feature is ON by default as not everyone bothers to read manuals and so won't know it's there to be able to use it.
This is a simple listener that listens on channels 1 through 9 for anything being said either by people or objects and reports back to you.
You can also set a custom channel to listen to by pressing the “Custom” button in the menu and follow the instructions it gives you.
This is a special Alteran Stargate themed posing stand; stand out from the crowd while adjusting your avatar.
This is a handy light that will stay where you rez it, it is especially useful lighting up a large area when used in numbers.
To turn it off and de-rez you can either delete it or use the following voice command. /1 light off
This is a handy hover light that will follow you everywhere; it is especially useful when building at night.
To turn it off and de-rez you can either delete it or use the following voice command. /1 light off
This is a fully enclosed Alteran styled lab that is 20x20m and perfect for working inside.
This is a basic, Alteran styled building platform that is also 20x20m and good for working on your projects up in the sky above sandboxes where no-one will bother you.
This is basically an Alteran styled avatar cage that you can rez and choose who to make it lock up.
NOTE!!! This feature is meant for harmless fun with your friends. DO NOT use it to harass, annoy or grief other people as this will most likely result in you being banned!
This is a cool recreation of the drone weapons as seen on Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. Once you have rezzed this drone it will ask you for permission to take controls.
When you accept you can then go into mouse-look to manually aim the weapon at someone or something.
To aim just look at your target then simply left click. The drone will now be aiming roughly in the direction of your target.
To fire you can either say /3 fire or you can just press Page Down on your keyboard.
If you wish the drone to track in and follow someone until it hits them just rez the drone, you don't need to give it control perms if you don't want it this time.
Type in the command /3 target and the drone will then scan for anyone within 100m before presenting you with a list of names in a menu box.
Click the corresponding button number for who you wish to target. The drone will now do the rest.
NOTE: This drone is set to do 100% damage on damage enabled land, thus instantly killing anyone it hits.
It will also push people and physical objects into the sky on push enabled land.
Do not use this to grief; it is purely here just for harmless fun (Not the definition of fun for grievers) and eye candy.
This weapon has been upgraded with auto locking on AI targeting when fired manually and is also compatible with the ASN Death System.
You can use this option to fake a teleport with the Asgard teleport effect and hide your avatar below the ground. This is a fun way to hide from people. :p
This function allows you to teleport to anyone within the same region as you provided that you know their full name, you can also use the same feature to send that person a ? transport beam so that they can teleport directly to you. This system also supports teleporting to any valid region co-ordinates that you specify.
Commands to use this function need to be said on your current voice command channel, by default this is channel 1.
This option allows you to turn on and off the Asgard teleport effects each time you teleport using the world map, be it inter-sim or outer-sim teleporting.
The Asgard teleport effects also temp disable automatically for 30 seconds each time it detects an outgoing wormhole.
This is in case you are travelling through the gate and prevents the effects from going off as you appear on the other side of the other gate, otherwise it just looks silly having someone teleport through a Stargate and have teleport effects going off.
The teleport history stores the last 10 places that you have teleported to since you logged on and also gives you the ability to teleport back to any of those locations via a dialog menu with the list of places and use of the world map. You can clear the log if you wish by using the Clear button in the menu or by using the voice command.
This function will inform you of live changes to sim and parcel status, such as if damage or push was just enabled.
This is helpful as it gives you time to prepare to defend yourself if someone is playing with weapons.
Also gives you a chance to quickly rez your drone weapon and take out anyone hostile near you, with damage enabled they will die instantly and will end up being sent back to their home location.
The drone weapons also work with the “Death” system that comes with the ASN gates.
This option will tell you the name of each person who happens to bump into you. This feature has a sleep timer as to prevent you from being spammed when someone is pushing you around or constantly walking/running/flying into you.
This function will notify you when newbie’s come into chat range. Also if any Lindens are within 100m of you.
This can be helpful if you have been looking for a Linden online and in-world and there just happen to be one near you within shouting distance.
NOTE: The scanner will not pick up all Lindens as they have a choice if they wish to appear invisible or not to sensors (This is known as GOD mode).
It all depends on the Linden.
The Stargate radio allows for two way communications via an active Stargate that is within 100m of your current position. This can be a good tool for staying in contact with a team on the other side of the gate if you are engaged in Stargate themed role play.
To send messages over the Stargate radio simply talk on channel 4
You can turn this feature on or off via the menu or voice command.
If you are looking for a good 3rd party client that supports RLV we recommend the Catznip client which you can download from here: http://catznip.com/
This is a good feature if you are helping friends and family get their very own Alteran Stargate without having to drag them to find an Alteran gate vendor.
All you do is navigate to page 2 of the main menu and choose “Give Gate” you can also use the voice command.
If there is anyone within 20m of you then you will be presented with a menu containing a list of people that you can select from to send a gate to. You can also use this feature to get yourself a gate if you don't already have one.
NOTE: Please do not spam random people using this as it's not fair and we will end up disabling the feature from the PDA on the Stargate vendor server.
This is more of a time saving feature for when you get an update for the PDA and don't want to have to go through all the menus setting everything back to how you like it.
All you need to do is edit the “Alteran PDA - User Presets” notecard that comes with the PDA with the settings that you want, then to load it all you have do is right click it in your inventory and select “Copy Asset UUID”.
Then you go to your PDA and open the menu to page 2 and choose Presets, or you can use the voice command.
You will then be told to say the UUID on channel 9. All you have to do is type “/9 ” then press Ctrl+V to paste in the key, then hit enter.
It will take a few moments for the PDA to fully load everything but it is much quicker and easier than doing it all through the menus or voice commands.
This is a convenience feature that allows you to break free of the normal 150m (cloud height) flight limit that LL set a long time ago (used to be 200m).
When enabled it will not kick in until you hit 150m, at which point it will take over from the normal Linden flight and allow you to fly as high as you like.
Note that unlike other flight boosters this does not shoot you all over the place when above 150m.
You will fly at the same normal speed as you would if you were flying below the 150m limit.
Also, the longer you hold down the fly up button on the keyboard (or the UI window that you can have open in the SL client) the faster you will fly upwards.
This is great if you want to fly up to a really high height, such as 4096m which is now the new height limit in which you can build.
This feature can be enabled or disabled via the menu or voice command. (See section 2 for the list of commands)
The PDA has the OS Labs AutoGDO built right into it which will give you access to gates that are protected by the OS Labs IDC system either in the DHDs, Dialing Computers or the stand alone server, provided your name or active group have seen added to the access list on the IDC system.
This feature will auto enable and disable if you wish to use the OS Labs AutoGDO device itself on your arm.
Merged several scripts in a big rewrite to lower the script count, optimise performance and be more memory efficient. Removed pointless features such as Twitter posting and the Comms system that sent IMs to people (Pointless given you can just IM the person normally. Removed the land tools as it was never used. Changed how the title system works to support almost infinite titles. Created a black version of the PDA. Updated the screens for the white PDA to be less cloudy. Moved all text output to be handled by language files allowing multiple languages to be added. Make the PDA ask you which language you want to use on first rez. Added German language file. Added French language file. Changed "All On" and "All Off" in the sounds menu to "Chime On" and "Chime Off" as this makes more sense given the PDA only really has 2 different sounds. Changed the PDA to show detected peoples names a link to their profile along with a mini picture of their profile pic. Note this only works with v2 and above clients. Fixed several bugs in various scripts that caused some features to not remember is they were on or off. PDA uses less than 1000 Kb of script memory now where as the previous version was over 2100 Kb. Created a black variant of the dock to match the new black PDA Created script-less prop versions of each PDA that can be worn as a fashion accessory if you are someone that has strict script count rules for avatars. The Second Life Military Community is a good example of this. The props are also handy if you want to just have a PDA rezzed out somewhere with the dock.
Fixed a memory leak in the Warning/Notifications script that caused it to run out of memory and stack-heap. Sorry guys.
Altered how the flight booster works so that it's smoother and also to get around an issue where it wouldn't kick in if the terrain below you is lower than 10m. The lifesigns detector and people notices now supports display names and will be shown in this format - Display Name (user.name)
Fixed a bug in the teleport system that would cause the fetch function to forget it's rez position which made the teleport fail.
Fixed a bug in the teleport system that was causing it to get confused with the new display name feature that Linden Lab recently added to Second Life. This is what caused the problems with the "Blah is not in this region bug". Now when it can't find a persons key is will say key not found and if a key is found but the person really is not in the region or is offline then it will say said person isn't in the region which would be correct.
Switched to use the crazyLabs private name2key lookup service over the Alpha-Fox service which has currently been disabled on the server. (This is why the "/1 tp2 name here" feature stopped working.)
Recompiled every single script to fix a MONO script time issue.
Updated the AutoGDO to make it compatible with the latest IDC/GDO update. Fixed several bugs in the script that remembered and restored all your settings from last logoff Added RLV support for the Alteran Stargate Network and also the crazyLabs Iconian Gateways so that you can auto teleport simply by stepping through the Stargate/Gateway. Added a new feature that allows you to post to your Twitter timeline. Fixed a bug in the Subnova radio controls that wouldn't turn it off properly when you tried to disable it. Removed the "power" features that simulated the PDA having a power source thus it would go flat every 24 hours between recharges. This after a while got annoying for most people which is why it has been removed. Removed the power level button and LED indicators from the back of the PDA as they are now pointless with the power simulation being removed. Few texture optimizations and changes.
Added custom titles to the People detection. eg "Ancient detected within communication range, Wolfie Waves" If you wish to have your own title just IM Wolfie Waves or Peter Lameth with your request and we will add you to the title database. This is a free service and is all just for fun. Replaced the old "Teleport to anyone within 96m" function with a new teleport function developed by crazyLabs which will allow you to teleport to anyone within the same region as you. Fixed a bug in the presets notecard reader that wouldn't set the CMD channel that is specified in the notecard. Required update for the AutoGDO code which has extra security checks after someone tried to hack the system. They failed but it flooded our logs with false readings and also confused the GDOs. Subnova Radio updated to support ability to turn the mic on and off, also added a channel changer command to the list of voice commands.
Updated the Subnova radio to the latest version which now support channel changing (As in radio frequencies, not chat listen channels) Added in language detection to the lifesigns function. Added a new land tools function that allows you to eject and ban people from your land for a specified length of time. Moved the target stargate iris notification from the built in AutoGDO to the Warning system so that you still get the iris closed warnings even when the GDO is turned off. Added a region border proximity warning so you know if you are within 10m of a region border to save you from accidentally crossing over.
Fixed the voice channel bug that would randomly set the CMD listen channel to channel 0 Changed the Stargate scanner to look for Alteran gates from Arcturus gates. Changed the Stargate activity detector to react to Alteran gates from Arcturus gates. Changed the Stargate radio to work with the Alteran gates. Changed the "Get Stargate" function to give out Alteran gates rather than the old Arcturus gates. Changed the power cell life from 5 hours to 24 hours. Updated the Alteran drone with a better AI and compatibility with the ASN Death System. Updated the flight assist with the new trigger height of 150m and also made it fly up faster the longer you fly up. Updated the Scan Area function to also show how many people are in the region you are in. Updated the fail-safe script that saves all your settings to be more efficient. Updated the Drone Weapon to a new model with flexi tentacles. It also now uses glow. Updated the status LEDs on the front and back to use glow when on. Added the Subnova Radio scripts as provided by Lex Mars. Added a new object to the rez items function, an Alteran Brig (Avatar follow cage) Added a new light that can be rezzed in a stationary position. Added a channel spy that can show you what is being said on different channels. E.g. channels 1 through 9. Added more screen textures to the animated screen slide show including one showing the layout of our Midway Space Station build in the region Midway. Integrated the OS Labs AutoGDO system. Script optimizations and clean ups. All scripts recompiled to the new super fast MONO VM. Support for the old Arcturus Stargate Network has now been dropped. Various other little changes, updates and bug fixes that I can't remember as I forgot to write them down.
Updated the auto map collision script to work with the new Alteran gates. (NOTE! This is the ONLY update I will be releasing for the Alteran PDA before the 1.4 update which will be released once the Alteran gates have gone to version 1.0)
Fixed a little mistake in this read me were 2 sets of voice commands were labelled incorrectly. Added the ability to change the main voice command channel number Tweaked the flight enhancer/booster Fixed 2 bugs in the drone, one that would cause it to flail about while auto targeting someone and the other made it sometimes just fly off when told to target someone. Fixed a bug that would sometimes cause the Asgard teleport effect to re-enable if disabled. Fixed bug that would not temp disable the Asgard teleport effect when on outgoing wormhole is detected. Fixed a bug that would not disable or enable the event horizon map script that allows for map teleport by stepping through the gate instead of having to touch the EH. Added a new screen to the rotation.
Fixed a typo in the voice command for the lab and building platforms Added a flight enhancer/booster Tweaked the drones targeting script
Few minor bugs fixed that were found shortly after release. All fixed now Added a typing AO as lots of people were asking for it. Sorted out the Read Me as there were a few things that I forgot to put in it.
